Yung Yang F/W 2012 Presentation

So I couldn't be in two places at once and since I've been busy working, I sent my photographer/intern, Pranesh Barua, to the Yuna Yang presentation.

The collection, titled "A Room Of One's Own" is derived from an extended essay written by Virginia Woolf in 1929. The designer, Yuna, was inspired by the never-ending fairytale fantasy that all women have had since they were little girls. This particular collection juxtaposes a woman's sophisticated adult style with her childhood dream.

The collection seemed to range from pastels/whites to even bolder colors. I really loved the darker, sultry looks.

Number:Lab & Yuna Yang

At Number:Lab's Spring/Summer 2012 show, the collection showcased a distinct black & white print along with bright orange and blue accents. The inspiration behind it was Picasso's "Bathers with Beach Ball 1928" painting in addition to skateboarders at the futuristic skate park at Pier 62 in New York. It took a more recreational approach to athletics.

The collection was made up of performance fabrics, luxe/breathable textiles that can transcend from the beach to the city streets. "The look, overall, bridges the wistful romance of the French Riveria in 1930's and the contemporary nonchalance of the New York City skateboarder."

After the show, I headed over to the Yuna Yang presentation at the Chelsea Art Museum. The theme was "Magic" but it reminded me of a youthful prom - something you might see in Teen Vogue with all of the bright colors. However, some of the pieces were elegant.


Yuna Yang's inspiration was the romance & celebration of life's riches & struggle, as they blend harmoniously into a new form of art. Frederico Fellini's La Dolce Vita, was known for his blend of fantasy & baroque images, was a main inspiration as well as surrealism depicted from iconic paintings by Dali and Man Ray. The main fabrics used in this collection were silk charmeuse, silk chiffon and double satin organza.
