While in Kuala Lumpur, we were looking around for a good breakfast place one morning, and while most shops were still closed at Pavilion, there was this posh looking bakery that caught our eye.
The Loaf is situated very near the main entrance to Pavilion and is a very nice looking cafe and bakery, with some alfresco seating area and some bench seating inside.
I understand that the main baker is a notable Japanese baker and Dr Mahatir opened this bakery himself.
Once you walk in, you will be bombarded by the wonderful aroma of baked pastries, and looking around, the beautiful sight of pretty pastries will hit you like a tidal wave, but in a very good way. It is hard not to salivate when you are in there.
Take a look at the picture for our breakfast that morning, and you will be hard pressed not to take a bite at their pastries. The food that we got for that day looked so pretty that we almost found it hard to consume.
Pauline first started with the red bean walnut bun and till today, she is absolutely addicted to it. The bread was perfectly baked but it was the aromatic red bean paste and the fragrant walnut that combined to make this one of the best buns we have ever tasted. It is that addictive!
It was a testament to the baking stills of The Loaf that something as simple as a simple mini chocolate danish could come out so good. The crust was nicely flaky and crisp and just slightly moist underneath, and the thick chocolate filling blended just right.
We next split a couple of pan cream and maple butter buns. Both were very good, with the cream and butter fillings just about the right texture. Not overpowering, the buns had enough fragrance to make you feel satisfied, unlike some other buns we know.
My own personal fave was this mixed nuts danish. The macadamia, almond and other nuts were so delicious crunchy and aromatic, and mixed with that wonderful crust underneath, this was a heavenly bite every time. A simply beautiful pastry to look at too.
Besides buns and pastries, the bakery also sells other desserts like cookies and such. All in all, this is a bakery that is really excellent for a breakfast stop or taking a break from work. Whilst we have BreadTalk here, the standard of The Loaf is just a cut above everyone else in this league.
