Nixia Varela LaMar Panama FW 2011

Last year I showed you all some beautiful creations Nixia Varela LaMar created for Costa Rica Fashion Week. For Fashion Week Panama 2011, Nixia wanted to explore beyond her usual classic and formal looks. While these were of course included-- in long silks-- she also included pieces with a bit of Bohemian flavor, mixing a variety of fabrics and coordinating them with prints. Additionally, the designer included her personal stamp on every aspect of wardrobe: belts, bags and chic neck attire. Shoes were adorned to complement outfits as well.
I love the prints (especially the polka dots!) and how she kept her collection very colorful. Each of these looks are chic, fun, and flirty. Posted here are some of my favorite looks from her collection (click to enlarge).

Top:Free People
Shorts: Old Navy
Shoes: Target
Lace Bandeau: Target
Sunnys: Modcloth
Bracelet: Express
Heart Ring: Jewelmint
Gold Ring: Kohls
Leaf Necklace: Forever 21
Charm necklace: Self made

I just love this top! The floral print, the lace around the neck, the uneven bottom, the razor back...what's not to love?! ;) I decided since it was about 90 degrees out that I would just wear a lace bandeau under it and not a tank. I was very glad I made this choice as we were outside all afternoon. I love the pairing of the top with a simple black short, some layered necklaces, and a few simple rings. I can't wait to wear it with skinny jeans, and layer it up in the fall! Thanks for shopping my closet everyone! You guys got me this great top! ;)

Sungei Road Laksa - Best Laksa in Singapore

I have had my fair share of Katong Laksa, and other variants of this popular local dish. But today, I just discovered the pinnacle of all things Laksa.

Located in Kelantan Road, Sungei Road Laksa is a humble stall in a typical coffeeshop, but manned by a family of 3 when I was there.

Just seeing the uncle filling each bowl of laksa with the gorgeous broth, fueled by a charcoal burner was worth the trip to go there by itself.

His pugilistic movements would not seem out of place in an Ang Lee movie, and the  family members working like clockwork to fill each bowl with ingredients was like swiss precision.

Kung Fu Laksa

The laksa itself was served like Katong Laksa style, with only a spoon and no chopsticks.

What was visually appealing was the explosion of colors brimming from side to side. The redness of the cockles matched beautifully with the green of the parsley and the yellowish broth.

The broth itself was very light, not lemak like Katong Laksa, but it was because of this lightness that I especially enjoyed. A tinge of refreshing sweetness, infused with the coconutty flavors.

Gorgeous Laksa

The cockles were not only huge, but very abundantly generous. The textures were just amazing, cooked to perfection. The noodles and bean sprouts added the much needed texture and color as well.

It was so delicious that I literally had 2 and a half bowls at one go. And let me say, I rarely consume so much food at one go. Every bit of laksa flavor had me intoxicated and just clamoring for more.

It was time for a new look so I went to Mario Tricoci and let my favorite boy/girl (dye/cut) duo do their magic on me! Here is me before:

And here is me after:

I had them take 3 inches off, frame my face up a bit, and add some carmel color under! I'm probably going to go back in the next few months and add some more color and take another inch or 2 off, but this is all my neck could stand! lol It was seriously painful to get this done so soon after surgery!
What do you think? I feel like a new person! I hadn't had anything done cut wise since November 2010 and the last time I had foils was 3 years ago. It was for sure time for an update. Hope you love it as much as I do!

Allison Izu Jeans

I recently was sent a pair of Allison Izu Jeans. What I love about her focus is that she designs specifically for women under 5'6", which is absolutely perfect for someone like me who's 5'2". She designs the jeans by altering the waist-hip-knee-ankle ratio so that someone who's short like me can still have that long, lean look while wearing them.

Below are some photos of me wearing these amazing, comfortable jeans. The fit is great; they almost feel like jeggings. These jeans were still a bit long for me as you can see they still scrunch up a bit on the bottom, but since these are skinny jean openings, it doesn't bother me at all. From the side view, you can see that when I unzip the pocket, it reveals a cool print lining inside!

On her website, she offers not only jeans but shorts, skirts, capris, and tops as well.

This weeks "I want what she has!" goes to Kristin Hassan! I am loving this top and cuff!

Top: $40 Nordstrom
Cuff: $13 Kristin Hassan

You are one hot mama Kristin! I love this top with it's amazing back detail. I am also GUSHING over this cuff! I wish I would have taken a picture of it when I tried it on because the opening is on the top (not the traditional side opening cuff!). I LOVE that idea! Less opportunities to clip your skin! Beautiful design Kristin, and great find on that top!

To see more of Kristin's new jewelry line, click here. All pieces are between $10.00 and $22.00!!! Nothing better then unique jewelry at affordable prices! LOVE them all and anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 2 pieces I ordered! ;)
